We support community-led healthcare in Kabira, Uganda.

In rural southern Uganda, access to healthcare isn’t a guarantee. Many people live miles from the nearest clinic. Even when help is available, it’s often unaffordable - or under-resourced.

We believe everyone deserves care. So we fund what already works.

Our role is simple: we support Ugandan medical professionals delivering everyday, life-saving services in their own community. No top-down programmes. No costly infrastructure. Just trust, partnership, and direct funding to the people doing the work.

Our Focus Areas

We fund and sustain three core areas of care

The Health Centre

Health Centre in Uganda

Share Uganda supports a primary healthcare centre in Kabira Village.

The Share Uganda Hampton Health Centre offers primary care services, such as treatment for respiratory infections, malaria, and typhoid.

It provides antenatal services, and it serves as a space for other organisations to deliver health programmes in partnership with Share Uganda.  We have links with the Ugandan government and numerous non-governmental organisations to provide immunisations, HIV and Tuberculosis treatment and care, disability support services, and palliative care services.

The centre is entirely lead by local health care professionals, and is overseen and advised by an external and local Medical Advisory Board. Our clinical officer, Nashiba Nabungye manages the day to day delivery of health services from the health centre. The Share Uganda Hampton Health Centre opened in December 2018.

Dignity

Team members sewing resuable pads

“Sanyu” means joy in Luganda, and the project was created in response to the number of girls leaving school due to lack of access to sanitary products. Our team at the Share Uganda Hampton Health Centre reported that many teenage girls had no access to pads or tampons, making it difficult to continue their education with confidence and comfort.

As with all our work, we listened first. Women in the community told us they wanted the skills and tools to make their own reusable sanitary towels - so we provided sewing machines for the health centre and, in partnership with World Vision, ran a menstrual health workshop in April 2023.

Today, the project is fully led by the local community and embedded into the school curriculum. Girls and boys are learning about menstrual health together and making reusable pads for their schools and wider communities. The project is sustainable, practical, and community-driven - restoring dignity and opportunity for young people in Kabira.

Community Outreach

Share Uganda Health camp

Share Uganda runs community health outreach camps to bring medical services to remote areas around Kabira.

These camps offer low-cost consultations and treatment for common infections like malaria, respiratory illness, and skin conditions. For many people attending, it’s a rare chance to speak to a doctor and access essential medication.

The camps are led by Ugandan doctors, nurses, teachers, and community leaders, with support from local volunteers. They don’t replace long-term care, but they offer immediate support where ongoing services are out of reach.

We plan to expand this outreach work in the future, reaching more people with vital healthcare. Core clinical staff was supported through their medical training by Share Uganda and now lead both health centre and outreach services in the community.

Why this approach?

We may be a small charity, but our model works. It’s simple, effective, and deeply rooted in trust.

Local Leadership

Our work is directed by Ugandan clinicians and community leaders.

Everyday Dignity

We treat healthcare not as a luxury, but a human right.

Sustainability

We train staff, invest in local systems, and keep our overheads minimal.
